was listening to president obama call for gun control, she had no way of knowing that in a matter of only a few hours, her family would become the latest in chicago to be ripped apart by a gunshot. her 18-year-old sister was shot and killed while walking with friends, one of whom may have been the intended target. cnn's ted rowlands has moran the story. he's joining us now. what are you finding out, ted? >> reporter: well, wolf, it is just another tragic story coming out of chicago. another teenager loses her life. as you mention, a 14-year-old girl who was up on stage with the president, listening to him talk about gun violence, would soon find out that her sister was also shot and killed. when president obama returned to chicago last week to talk about gun violence, 14-year-old destiny warren was one of the high school students standing behind him. a few hours later, destiny's 18-year-old sister was shot and killed in this alley in north chicago. >> all this gun violence that's going on out here, you never think it will be your child. this is the hardest thing for me in my life. >> reporter:
. good day. i'm andrea mitchell live in washington. president obama and congressional republicans remain worlds apart on a realistic solution to prevent billions of dollars in automatic cuts. the sequester from kicking in march 1st. right now the politics are trumping any movement towards compromise. joining me now for our daily fix chris calizza, msnbc contributor and managing of post politics.com, and washington post reporters laurie montgomery and nia malika henderson. chris, first to you. set the stage for us. there's no solution in sight. is the white house expecting it has the high road in terms of politics of it and that republicans will be on the defensive because i don't see any way they're bridging the gap. there is no outward ed that began is being bridged. i think the government sees the only way it could be bridged by agreeing with some tax increases, and they say, you know what, all these cuts, sure it's a meat clever approach, not a scalpel, but at least they're cuts, and it's not about tax increases. we kind of -- they believe that to maintain the core of who the republic
